Geba, or Giva

(hill) (Josh. 21:17; 1 Kings 15:22) — a city in the tribe of Benjamin at its northern extremity, given, with its surrounding lands, together with 12 other cities, to the Levites (Josh. 18:24). Hence the expression “from Geba to Beersheba,” meaning the whole length of the land. Near Geba, David, soon after his accession to the throne, inflicted a heavy defeat on the Philistines (2 Sam. 5:25). At present this is a small village, Jeba, with the remains of ancient ruins, situated on a picturesque hill, about three hours’ journey to the north of Jerusalem, a few versts from Mukhmas (biblical Michmash).
