Jochebed Jochabed

(the glory of the LORD) - mother of Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, daughter of Levi, and wife of Amram. She was born in Egypt (Num 26:59). Since Amram was a son of Kohath, she was her husband's aunt. Such a marriage was later forbidden by the Mosaic Law (Lev 18:12), but Moses does not conceal the fact. Scripture's few particulars nevertheless show her maternal faith and care, especially in preserving the infant Moses (Exod 2:1-10; 6:20).
