Beriah

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(son of misfortune, unfortunate) — the name of three persons: a) (Gen. 46:17; Num. 26:44; 1 Chron. 7:30, 31) one of the sons of Asher, who together with his father accompanied Jacob into Egypt. He is also called Beria, or Beriah; b) (1 Chron. 8:13) one of the chiefs of the tribe of Benjamin at Aijalon, with his brother Shema, who drove out the Canaanites living in Gath.
