Lasea
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(rough, harsh) (Acts 27:8) - a city on the southern side of Crete, not far from the place Acts calls Fair Havens. J. Brown's discoveries in 1856 clarified its location a short distance east of that harbor. The remains of its ruins are now washed by the sea. The ancient name survived among the local inhabitants, which is especially remarkable because the city had long remained unknown.
