Lot

(covering, veil) (Gen 11:27; 2 Pet 2:7-8; Luke 17:28-29) - son of Haran and nephew of Abraham. Apart from Sarah, Lot was the only relative who accompanied Abraham to Canaan. He lived for a time with his uncle until disputes arose between their herdsmen concerning pasture. Recognizing the need to separate, Abraham selflessly gave Lot the first choice: 'Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left' (Gen 13:9).
