Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(1 Macc 15:16), also called Lusius - the Roman consul who, after an embassy from the high priest Simon to the Roman senate, wrote to Ptolemy Euergetes king of Egypt, Demetrius Nicator king of Syria, and others, directing that they neither harm the Jews nor make war against them. The source places his consulship in Seleucid years 173-174, or about 139-140 BC.
