Patience (Endurance)

—the virtue by which affliction, sorrow, temptation, and delay are borne with steadfast faith and hope. God is called “the God of patience and consolation” (Rom. 15:5). Job is remembered as an example of endurance under trial (James 5:11), while Christ is its supreme pattern: He endured the cross, despised its shame, and is seated at the right hand of God (Heb. 12:1–3). Christian patience is not passivity but persevering obedience sustained by confidence in God.
