Pathros

and Pathrusim (the southern land, that is, Egyptian) (Isa. 11:11; Jer. 44:1, 15; Ezek. 30:14)—the southern or upper part of Egypt, the Thebaid of the ancient Greeks, called Saʿid in later usage. Some of the Jews withdrew to this country and there gave themselves to idolatry, but the prophet Jeremiah foretold a terrible judgment of God upon them for it. The Pathrusim, inhabitants and early settlers of Pathros, were descendants of Mizraim, son of Ham (Gen. 10:14).
