Philip the Apostle

(John 1:43–48; Matt. 10:3; Acts 1:13)—one of the Twelve, from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. When Jesus called him, “Follow Me,” Philip found Nathanael and announced that the One foretold by Moses and the prophets had been found. At the feeding of the multitude Jesus tested Philip by asking where bread could be bought; Philip calculated that two hundred denarii would not be enough (John 6:5–7). When Greeks wished to see Jesus, they approached Philip, who consulted Andrew, and the two brought the request to the Lord (John 12:20–22).
At the Last Supper Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us,” eliciting Christ’s teaching that whoever has seen Him has seen the Father (John 14:8–11).
