Podir (High-Priestly Robe)

(Sir. 45:10; Rev. 1:13 and elsewhere)—the long garment of Jewish high priests and kings, shaped like an under-robe, with an opening for the head and, as is supposed, without sleeves. According to Exodus it was made entirely of blue cloth. Around its hem were embroidered forms like apples or pomegranates, with golden bells between them, so that those outside the sanctuary could hear when the high priest entered before the Lord (Ex. 28:31–35).
