Pergamum
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(Rev. 1:11)—a city mentioned in the Revelation of the Apostle John the Theologian, called Bergama in the source’s day. It was once the capital of Mysia in Asia Minor. One of the seven churches of Asia to which St. John addresses himself in Revelation stood there (Rev. 2:12). The apostle says that Satan’s throne was in Pergamum, perhaps referring to the famous pagan temple of Aesculapius there.
