Precious stones
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(Exod 28:11-20; Job 28:6, 13; 1 Kgs 10:2; Rev 21:18-21) - precious stones are often mentioned in Scripture. The queen of Sheba brought Solomon great wealth, gold, and precious stones. Hiram's and Solomon's servants brought stones with gold and algum wood from Ophir (2 Chr 9:10), and Solomon's temple was adorned with costly stones for beauty (2 Chr 3:6). Mystery Babylon is pictured adorned with gold, precious stones, and pearls (Rev 18:16), while the foundations of heavenly Jerusalem's wall are adorned with every precious stone (Rev 21:19). The Hebrews appear to have valued precious stones, and stones generally, very highly. See the individual entries for particular stones.
