Beryl
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(Tobit 13:17) — a precious stone, found originally at Tarshish (in Spain), and at present in Siberia, in Brazil, and on the island of Ceylon. Its predominant color was green. This is the tenth stone, under the name chrysolite, in the fourth row of the stones of the high priest’s breastplate of judgment (Exod. 28:20), and will be, according to the testimony of the Seer, the eighth foundation of the wall of the new Jerusalem (Rev. 21:20). In that passage it is called beryl. It is mentioned among the many precious stones that were found in the treasury of the king of Tyre, under the name chrysolite (Ezek. 28:13).
