Abihu Abiud

(God is my father) — the name of the following persons: a) (Exod. 28:1) one of the sons of Aaron who, together with his brothers Nadab, Eleazar, and Ithamar, was set apart, or appointed, by God Himself to the priestly service. Soon after their entrance into the priesthood, Nadab and Abihu sinned, violating God’s command concerning the offering of incense, and were immediately destroyed by fire that came forth from the Lord (Lev. 10:1–2). This happened while the Hebrews were in the wilderness of Sinai.
The nature of their fault is plain: they brought before the Lord strange fire, that is, ordinary fire, and not that which, by God’s command, was to be taken from the altar. Some ascribe this sinful act to excessive use of wine on their part. b) (1 Chron. 6:50 [as given]) son of Phinehas, son of Eleazar. In the Hebrew text and in the Septuagint the name given is: Abishua. c) (1 Chron. 8:3) one of the sons of Bela, son of Benjamin. d) (Matt. 1:13) father of Eliakim, son of Zerubbabel, mentioned in the genealogy of the Lord.
