Prochorus

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(leader of a chorus) (Acts 6:5)—one of the seven deacons of the apostolic Church ordained by the apostles. According to tradition, he was a disciple of the Apostle Peter and a companion and scribe of the holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian. He became bishop of Nicomedia and suffered martyrdom at Antioch. The Church commemorates him on July 28 and January 4.
