Rue

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(Luke 11:42)—a strongly scented plant common in Palestine, growing two to four feet high and used medicinally by the ancients. The Savior names it with mint and other herbs from which the Jews scrupulously tithed while neglecting weightier duties. Rue grows abundantly in Palestine and Syria, southern Europe, and gardens elsewhere.
