(red)—the name of two persons: (1) (Mark 15:21) a son of Simon of Cyrene, who was compelled by Roman soldiers to carry the Lord’s Cross to Golgotha; and (2) (Rom. 16:13) a Christian in Rome commended by Paul. Tradition numbers him among the Seventy Apostles and calls him bishop of Thebes in Greece; the source records commemorations on January 4 and April 8.
