Sheba

(oath) (2 Sam. 20:1–22)—son of Bichri, a Benjaminite. Soon after Absalom’s revolt he raised another rebellion against David and drew away much of Israel. Joab pursued him to Abel-beth-maachah. At the counsel of a wise woman of the city, the inhabitants killed Sheba and threw his head over the wall, thereby averting the siege; Joab sounded the trumpet, the army dispersed, and the revolt ended.
