(a remnant shall return; Isa. 7:3)—the symbolic name given by the LORD to a son of Isaiah. During the Syro-Ephraimite crisis Isaiah met King Ahaz with this son and announced that the hostile coalition would not prevail. The name embodies both judgment and hope: a remnant would survive or return. The source reads the following Immanuel prophecy christologically, connecting Judah’s temporary deliverance with the ultimate salvation accomplished in Christ.
