Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(Ezek. 16:10, 13; Rev. 18:12)—a costly textile long associated with luxury and royal or ceremonial dress. Ezekiel’s Hebrew term is uncertain and is rendered by some versions as silk and by others as fine fabric; Revelation clearly includes silk among the costly merchandise of Babylon. Ancient silk reached the Near East through long-distance trade from Asia.
