Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(hostility; strife) (Gen. 26:21)—the name Isaac gave a well because his herdsmen quarreled there with the Philistine herdsmen. It lay in the Valley of Gerar or in that direction. The source notes a proposed survival of the name in the Wadi Shutain south of Elusa, but the identification is uncertain.
