The court of the guard

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(Jer. 32:2), otherwise the court of the prison — was located in the royal palace, with a corner tower looking out onto the palace courtyard. Here was quartered the royal palace guard, and it also served as a place of confinement for nobles and other distinguished persons, as, for example, the prophet Jeremiah, in the days of King Zedekiah (Jer. 32:1–3).
