The high places of Baal

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(Num. 22:41; in the Book of Joshua, 13:17, “Bamoth-baal”) are taken to be one and the same as the city of Bamoth in the land of Moab. In the Book of Numbers (22:41; 33:1, 6, 9) Balaam was brought up onto the high places of Baal so that he might see from there a part of the people of Israel, and Balaam indeed saw them from the heights of Baal, from the summit of the rocks and hills.
