The sling

(1 Sam. 17:40) — an ancient weapon of war, by means of which stones struck their target with great force and remarkable accuracy (Judg. 20:15, 16). For skillful handling of the sling the Benjamites were especially renowned (Judg. 20:16), being also good archers, shooting left-handed (1 Chron. 12:2).
