—(1) a commander in Coele-syria who defected from Ptolemy IV Philopator to Antiochus III. According to 3 Maccabees 1:2-3, he entered Ptolemy’s tent at night intending to kill him, but Dositheus son of Drimylus had placed another man in the king’s bed, and the intended victim escaped. (2) One of the envoys whom Nicanor sent with Posidonius and Mattathias to negotiate terms with Judas Maccabeus (2 Macc. 14:19).
