Valley of Rephaim

(Josh. 15:8; 18:16)—a valley near Jerusalem, most probably south of the city toward Bethlehem. Bethlehem was evidently not far from it (1 Chron. 11:15–18). Scripture shows that the valley was fertile and rich in grain fields (Isa. 17:5). Its chief biblical interest lies in the repeated battles there between David and the Philistines (2 Sam. 5:18; 23:13; 1 Chron. 11:15). The source says that Arabs knew it as el-Beka'a.
