Ziph

— of two cities of the same name in the tribe of Judah, one to the south, on the borders of the land of Edom (Josh. 15:24), and the other several miles from Hebron, in the hill country (Josh. 15:55), on the borders of the wilderness of Ziph (1 Sam. 23:14–25), which formed part of the wilderness of Judea, in which David hid, fleeing from Saul. This city, in all likelihood, was fortified by Rehoboam (2 Chron. 11:8). Three English miles from Hebron there is still to be found a hill called Tell Zif.
