Abijah

(1 Kings 14:1–18) — second king of Judah, son of Jeroboam. In chapter 14 of 1 Kings it is related that Abijah fell ill, and that Jeroboam, anxious about his son’s fate, sent his wife to inquire of the prophet Ahijah in Shiloh what would become of the child. The prophet foretold his death (v. 12) and the fall of the house of Jeroboam. Abijah indeed died and was carried back to his mother at Tirzah the moment she crossed the threshold of the house, “and all Israel mourned for him, and buried him” (v. 17–18), notes the sacred historian.
The prophet’s words in verse 13 are highly significant and honorable to Abijah’s memory: “And all Israel shall mourn for him, and bury him: for he only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward the Lord God of Israel.”
