Ahijah

(friend of Jehovah) — the name of the following persons: a) (1 Kings 4:3) son of Shisha, one of Solomon’s scribes; b) (1 Sam. 14:3–18) son of Ahitub, descendant of the high priest Eli, who lived in Shiloh at the end of Saul’s reign; c) (1 Kings 11:29) the prophet Elijah [as given; recte Ahijah], who lived in Shiloh. He probably encouraged Solomon in building the Temple, and threatened him with the destruction of his kingdom after his shameful fall (1 Kings 11:11 [rather 6:11]; 9:6).
He lived to a great old age (1 Kings 14:4); d) (1 Kings 15:27–33) father of Baasha, king of Israel, of the tribe of Issachar; e) (1 Chron. 2:25) son of Jerahmeel, firstborn of Hezron, of the tribe of Judah; f) (Neh. 10:26) one of the chiefs of the people who set his seal to the covenant written by Nehemiah; g) (2 Esdras 1:2 [as given]) son of Phinehas, high priest, of the ancestors of Ezra; h) (1 Chron. 8:7) a Benjamite, of the sons of Ehud; i) (1 Chron. 11:36) a Pelonite, one of David’s chief warriors.
