(1 Kings 14:25–26; 2 Chron. 12:2–9)—king of Egypt who invaded Judah in the fifth year of Rehoboam and carried away treasures from the Temple and palace, including Solomon’s golden shields. He is commonly identified with Pharaoh Shoshenq I, founder of Egypt’s Twenty-second Dynasty. A campaign list on the Bubastite Portal at Karnak names many Palestinian places, providing important extrabiblical evidence for Egyptian operations in the region, although the list does not narrate every detail recorded in Kings and Chronicles.
