Almighty

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(Hebrew: Shaddai) (Gen. 17:1; 48:3; Exod. 6:2, 3; Job 5:17, and elsewhere) — one of the most essential attributes of God. Under this name the Lord appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Thus He Himself says of Himself to Moses (Exod. 6:2, 3): “And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the Lord: And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.” The omnipotence of God is especially revealed in the history of His creation, providence, redemption, and retribution.
