Amnon

(constant, faithful) — the name of two persons: a) (1 Chron. 3:1) firstborn son of David, born in Hebron of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess. He committed a grave sin by violating his (half-)sister Tamar (2 Sam. 13). David was greatly angered at his son for this act of adultery, though he did not punish him; but Amnon’s brother Absalom resolved to avenge the dishonor. Concealing his design for two years, he at last carried it out at his own estate, during a household feast (sheep-shearing), to which Amnon, along with other members of the royal family, had been invited; b) (1 Chron. 4:20) eldest son of Shimon, of the tribe of Judah.
