(Acts 28:15) — the place where the Apostle Paul was met by Roman Christians, as he traveled this road from Puteoli to Rome as a prisoner under the guard of a centurion. It was situated 43 Roman miles from Rome. This place is identified with the present-day Tre Ponti, and stands on the road to Naples. Its name is explained by the fact that it lay on the famous Appian Way, leading from Rome to Capua and built by Appius Claudius, and that it contained a forum, or marketplace, with inns for travelers, where sellers and small traders gathered in great numbers.
