Fever
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(Lev. 26:16; Matt. 8:14; John 4:52; Acts 28:6) — various kinds of acute, inflammatory diseases, among them fever, frequently encountered in the East and raging with particular force in spring and autumn. These are prolonged and dangerous diseases, occurring in nervous, bilious, putrid, and other forms. The miraculous healings by the Lord of fever are the following: the mother-in-lawof Simon Peter, by the touch of His hand (Matt. 8:14), and the son of the nobleman, in his absence, by His miracle-working word (John 4:46–53).
St. Paul the Apostle also healed the father of Publius, chief man of the island of Malta, from a fever, by prayer and the laying on of hands (Acts 28:7, 8). See Diseases.
