Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(destruction, desolation) (2 Kings 17:24) — the name of a city taken by Sargon (Sennacherib), whose inhabitants he transferred to the depopulated cities of Samaria, according to the general custom of the Assyrian kings regarding conquered peoples. It is supposed that it was located not far from Babylon. Some identify it with the city of Ivvah (2 Kings 18:34; 19:13).
