Cuthah Aemath

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(2 Kgs 17:24-30) - a land from which Shalmaneser king of Assyria transferred settlers, together with people from Babylon, to repopulate the kingdom of Israel after its destruction. Intermarrying with the few native inhabitants who remained, the newcomers formed the people later known as Samaritans, or Cuthites in Talmudic usage. The country's location was disputed and the source regarded it as uncertain.
