Azmaveth

(Ezra 2:24) — a city in the tribe of Judah or Benjamin, near Jerusalem (Neh. 12:29), also called Beth-azmaveth (Neh. 7:28). Forty-two men of its inhabitants, called the sons of Azmaveth, were among those who returned with Zerubbabel from the Babylonian captivity (Ezra 2:24); some of them, sons of singers, had their own settlements near Azmaveth and were present at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem (Neh. 12:29). One recent English traveler (Finn) identifies Azmaveth with the present-day Hizmeh, a village in the hill country of the tribe of Benjamin, southeast of Jeba.
