(son of sorrow) — the name of six persons: a) (2 Sam. 4:2, 5, 6, 9, 12) one of the sons of Rimmon, a Beerothite, commander of the army of Ish-bosheth, son of Saul. Together with his brother Rechab he entered the house of Ish-bosheth at noon while he was sleeping and struck him in the belly. Taking the head of the slain man with them, they fled to David at Hebron, hoping that he would richly reward them for the head of such an enemy; but they were deceived in their expectations.
David was indignant at their cruelty and heartlessness, and ordered them to be killed, their hands and feet cut off, and their bodies hung over the pool at Hebron; b) (2 Sam. 23:29) a Netophathite, father of Heled, one of David’s mighty men; c) (Neh. 3:4) father of Zadok; d) (1 Kings 4:12) son of Ahilud, one of Solomon’s officers in Jezreel and on the west side of the Jordan valley; e) (1 Kings 4:16) son of Hushai, likewise one of Solomon’s officers over Israel; f) (Ezra 2:2) one of the heads of the people of Israel who returned from captivity with Zerubbabel. The name of four of these persons is given in the Russian translation as “Vaana.”
