Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(from a root meaning: passion, or, by others, offspring) — the name of two persons: a) one of David’s mighty men, a Gadite (2 Sam. 23:36); b) a Levite, descendant of Merari, son of Bunni [?] and grandfather of Ethan, one of the singers appointed by David (1 Chron. 6:46). Six hundred and forty-two of his descendants returned from captivity (Ezra 2:10), some of whom married foreign wives (10:29–34). He is also called Binnui (Neh. 7:15).
