Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(according to Gesenius: hail; according to Fürst: place of sowing) (Gen. 16:14) — a locality south of Beersheba, on the road from Hebron to Shur (v. 7). Between this place and Kadesh was found the spring called Beer-lahai-roi. Bared is probably the same as Chesil in the Book of Joshua (15:30), and Bethuel (1 Chron. 4:30).
