Bethbasi
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(1 Macc. 9:62–64) — a city or settlement in the wilderness, whose location is not exactly known. It is supposed, however, that it was located in the wilderness of the Jordan, not far from Jericho. This city served as a refuge for Jonathan and Simon Maccabeus during the attack upon them by the Syrian commander Bacchides. In Josephus this settlement is called Bethalaga.
