Brook of Egypt

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(Num. 34:5; Josh. 15:4)—the boundary stream between Egypt and Palestine, separating Palestine from Egypt and Arabia. The source describes it as descending from the mountains of Edom and flowing into the Mediterranean. It is sometimes called Shihor (Josh. 13:3). In Genesis 15:18, however, “the river of Egypt” denotes the Nile.
