(from the Zend language, land of fine horses) (Acts 2:9; 1 Pet 1:1) - a very extensive region of Asia Minor, bordering Cilicia on the south and the Euphrates on the east. It consisted of many districts inhabited by many peoples and was once an important Asian kingdom. Its last king was Archelaus, who was treacherously taken captive after Tiberius summoned him to Rome in AD 15, and whose dominions were incorporated into the Roman Empire. Cappadocians, together with others, were present in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost.
