Cleopas
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(change, passing) (Luke 24:18) - one of the two disciples to whom the risen Lord appeared on the road to Emmaus, a disciple and kinsman of the Lord according to the flesh. Opinions differed whether Luke's Cleopas was the same as John 19:25's Clopas. The Greek forms differ: Luke has Kleopas, a shortened Greek form of Kleopatros, while John has Klopas, taken as Aramaic from Chalpai. See Alphaeus.
