(bee) — the names of two women: a) (Gen. 24:59) — nurse of Rebekah, who accompanied her to the land of Canaan, when she left the house of her brother Laban in Mesopotamia to marry Isaac. In the book of Genesis (35:8) it is said that upon her death she was buried under an oak near Bethel, called the oak of weeping. From this we may conclude that this servant enjoyed particular love within the patriarch’s family, in which her loss was deeply felt. The custom of burial beneath trees was very widespread among the Hebrews (1 Sam. 31:13; 2 Kings 21:18).
