Dew

(2 Sam. 1:21)—water vapor condensed during the cool of night into droplets upon the ground and plants. Dew is so abundant in Judea that it often supplies moisture in the absence of rain. It therefore becomes an image of God’s spiritual blessing (Deut. 32:2), while its withdrawal signifies judgment (2 Sam. 1:21). God says through Hosea, “I will be as the dew unto Israel” (Hos. 14:5), and Job speaks of dew lying all night upon his branch (Job 29:19).
