, mentioned in the Book of Genesis (14:23), is thought by some to signify the cord on which were strung the precious stones composing a necklace. Bracelets, or wristlets, were worn by persons of both the male and female sex on both arms (2 Sam. 1:10), and women sometimes also on their feet (Is. 3:19-20). Women in Persia and Arabia wear chains around their ankles, adorned with little bells (Is. 3:16). Hand mirrors, made of cast bronze and beautifully polished, also formed a common accessory to women’s adornment. They were usually carried either in the hand or on a cord around the neck. See Mirror.
