Ephah

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(Exod. 16:36; Judg. 6:19; Ruth 2:17, and elsewhere) — a Jewish measure for grain or other dry goods. It represents a tenth part of a homer, and ten ephahs make up a homer. In our own measures a homer contains about twenty chetverts [an old Russian dry measure], so that an ephah contains about two chetverts, or sixteen garnets.
