First Epistle to the Corinthians

- Paul's letter of sixteen chapters. After he left Corinth, false teachers appeared who demeaned the apostle and taught Christians either to turn back to Jewish customs or to indulge sensual pleasures. Scandals spread and quarrels arose. The Corinthians divided into parties: some claimed Paul, others Cephas, others Apollos, and others Christ (1 Cor 1:12). While at Ephesus, Paul wrote this first epistle to correct them.
