Hagarenes
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(1 Chron. 5:10; Ps. 82 [83]:7; Bar. 3:23) — descendants of Ishmael, son of Hagar; Ishmaelites, or Arabs. At the time Israel took possession of the Promised Land, they lived on the eastern side of Palestine, between Gilead and the Euphrates. From Holy Scripture it appears that they sometimes entered into alliance with the Moabites against the Israelites, but for the most part fought without success.
